Barack Obama arrives in Canberra
This is Barack Obama’s his first official visit to Australia.
The President was greeted by Governor-General Quentin Bryce, Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Australia’s ambassador to the US, Kim Beazley, and the US ambassador Jeffrey Bleich as he descended from the aircraft at the Fairbairn defence establishment.
Mr Obama later on stepped into his personal bomb-proof transport vehicle, known as ‘The Beast’ to attend the official welcome ceremony on the forecourt of Parliament House.
Ms. Gillard and Mr. Obama are expected to make announcement over stronger military ties between the two countries during this 26-hour visit.
Barack Obama will meet with the country’s Prime Minister and address the Australian Parliament. He is also expected to announce that the US is expanding its military presence in the region.
