India’s new consulate inaugurated at Perth

Perth: Indian External Affairs Minister, S M Krishna, inaugurated India’s new consulate here.

Krishna said India-Australia relations have been expanding rapidly in recent years in all areas of trade, investment, education among others.

Australian Defence Minister Stephen Smith was also present on the occasion.

“Stephen Smith once pointed out, “It is under-appreciated that Perth and Chennai are closer to each other than Sydney is to Seoul, Shanghai or to Tokyo.” This statement focuses on an aspect of the geo-strategic realities of this region that is often overlooked,” Krishna said.

Krishna is in the city for the CHOGM Foreign Ministers Meeting.

Opening its second consulate in Perth, India pitched for improved economic and commercial engagement with Western Australia.
