India Week is the Australia India Institute’s annual celebration of all things India. From culture and thought to politics and society, the week is packed full of activities that deepen mutual understanding and strengthen links between our two countries.

On October 28, we are set to launch our third annual India Week at the University of Melbourne with activities ranging from documentary screening, academic forum, book launch and a Bollywood film night!

A full program of India Week 2019 along with links to register can be found below.

Monday 28th October: Spirit: Film Screening and Discussion

The Australia India Institute and Melbourne Social Equity Institute are thrilled to announce a screening of the acclaimed documentary ‘Spirit’ by Aii Fellow Dr Jane Dyson and award-winning filmmaker, Ross Harrison. Please join us at this special screening followed by refreshments at 5.30 pm – 6.30 pm, October 28th at Room 230, Kwong Lee Dow Building, 234 Queensberry Street.

Wednesday 30th October: Book Launch: My Wednesdays

My Wednesdays is a book written by one of Melbourne’s most prolific Indian-origin entrepreneurs, Saurabh Mishra.

Being published by Wilkinson Publishing, the book is Saurabh’s life story beautifully narrated through the prism of his unusual Wednesdays, taking in his extraordinary experiences as a volunteer in palliative care, an entrepreneur, a Hindustani classical musician and as a Kriya Yogi, all related with a good dose of self-deprecating humour.

Thursday 31st October: Question Marks Seminar Series: Education: Is National Education Policy the end of Indian Right to Education Act?

The big question for our QM series is: Does the Draft National Education Policy 2019 signal the end of the Right to Education Act in India? We consider how the RTE Act is being framed in the Draft NEP 2019, and ask what the future holds for RTE’s rights-based agenda and whether NEP 2019 signals the beginning of the end of the RTE Act.

Friday 1st November: India Week Film Night: Dil Chahta Hai

The Australia India Institute along with the Faculty of Arts and the UMSU Bollywood Club would like you to join us for a fun night of Indian Food, Bollywood dancing and a screening of cult classic ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ as part of India Week.

We look forward to seeing you.
