Britons turning smartphone addicts

London : Britons have turned so addicted to their Blackberrys and iPhones that they cannot do without them no matter if they are having a meal or going to the toilet, says a study.

Over a third of adults and majority of teenagers admit they cannot live without their smartphones and have them on 24 hours a day.

According to a research conducted for the communications regulator Ofcom, smartphone owners are also ruder than owners of regular mobile phones, with nearly one in five using their gadgets in cinema, theatres and other social occasions, even when they had been asked to switch them off.

James Thickett, director of research for Ofcom, said smartphone users’ refusal to switch them off at public venues raised issues of “social etiquette”.

“It is not just about adults and teenagers having different values, it is about technology driving the values towards the way you behave in social situations,” he said. (IANS)
