Melbourne: According to a new study, about 75 per cent of Internet users, including most young adults, log on to the web for no particular reason.
As per the report from Pew Research Centre’s Internet and American Life Project found that on any day, 53 per cent of 18 to 29 year-olds go online just to have fun or pass time.
The survey also revealed that the amount of time people spent on the web by Internet users doing nothing in particular corresponds with their age.
A phone survey was conducted from July 25 to August 26 among 2260 American adults, which brought forth this result.
The survey said that only 12 per cent of people aged over 65 said they went online the previous day for no particular reason, the Age reported.
Among those aged 50 to 64, only 27 per cent logged on to the web for nothing.
In total, about 58 per cent of all adults said that they use the Internet to just pass time or have fun, at least occasionally.
