New Delhi: A total of 955 public servants were caught red handed while taking bribes from January 2008 to August 2011, the Lok Sabha was informed.
The arrests were made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy said in a written statement.
The maximum of the arrested employees belonged to railways (156) and banks (144), followed by department of revenue (92), coal ministry (42) and department of telecommunications (40).
In another statement, the minister said that 17 senior retired officials belonging to Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Revenue Service have been prosecuted since Janaury 2008. (IANS)
