Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh died yesterday morning at around 8 am. He was 70 years old.
Jagjit Singh was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital on September 23 following brain haemorrhage and had undergone two surgeries. He had been under observation and was on life support system. But yesterday morning, his condition deteriorated.
He was regarded as one of the greatest Indian singers.
The Ghazal maestro had performed in several locations, both within and outside India. Tributes poured in from all corners over his passing away yesterday. Overseas Indians too expressed grief over Jagjit Singh’s death.
Lord Swraj Paul, a fan of the Ghazal maestro, recalled how Ghazal lovers from India and Pakistan formed packed audiences whenever he performed.
“He was matchless, a master of his art. His popularity transcended geographic and political boundaries. His sudden death is a huge loss to the world of music, “Lord Paul said.
