Kochi, July 27: A Tata Nano, hand-painted by artist Bose Krishnamachari at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale that was auctioned online.
The 24-hour-long online bidding was on www.saffronart.com. The minimum bid allowed was Rs.100, from the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF).
The serene white car titled ‘Maximum Nano’ was turned into a canvas by the 50-year-old biennale co-curator at the 96-day art festival that showcased works of over 90 artists from India and abroad.
“We had chosen the Nano because it is the common man’s car,” Krishnamachari said.
The Mumbai-based artist painted the car in four days. “I have used automotive paint. That will ensure the longevity of the work. We have got it laminated as well,” adds Krishnamachari, who is also the president of KBF.
Post the biennale, the car was on display at the Lulu Mall. The money raised at the auction will go towards organisational expenses for the next edition of the Biennale.
