Retail trade rises by 0.4 per cent in September

According to official figures, retail spending in Australia increased by 0.4 per cent in September. The economists said the rise in retail trading was expected.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics said that retail trade increased in the month of September to touch a seasonally adjusted $20.912 billion, compared to an upwardly revised $20.821 billion in August.

The bureau also reported that the retail spending was up by 0.6 per cent in the September quarter, in seasonally adjusted volume terms.

Forecasts by economists had predicted a 0.4 per cent rise in retail sales in the month of September and a 0.6 rise in the quarter.
