New Delhi: Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan was yesterday assaulted in his Supreme Court chamber by three youths. It is believed that the assault on him was carried on for his advocacy of plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
The three youths who assaulted Prashant Bhushan belong to a right-wing group.
Inder Verma and two others entered into Chamber No 301 of New Lawyers Chamber opposite Supreme Court and attacked him mentioning “Kashmir, Kashmir”.
The attack on Bhushan was caught live on TV screens as he was preparing to give an interview to an Indian TV channel. Prashant bhushan was slapped, beaten, kicked and pinned to the ground after being pushed out of the chair. The lawyer’s assistants and clerks, who came to his assistance, were also beaten by the attackers.
Bhushan mentioned Sri Ram Sene as being behind the attack. But he also referred to the presence of Sikh youth among the three. One Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, who claims to be president of ‘Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena’, said his organisation was behind the attack.
55-year-old Prashant Bhushan was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and discharged after check up.
