Australian job vacancies rise

According to the official statistics, the total number of job vacancies in Australia increased by 3.2 per cent in the three months to August.

The total number of vacancies in August 2011 was 187,100, in seasonally adjusted terms, compared with 181,200 in the previously quarterly survey in May, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said.

The number of employment opportunities in the private sector counted to 170,000 in August, which is a rise of 4.1 per cent from 163,300 in May.

There were 17,100 job vacancies in the public sector in August, down 4.4 per cent from vacancies recorded three months earlier.
